Richard Slota
Richard Slota was born in Southern California, USA, in 1947. He endured a Marine Master Sergeant father and a rigorous Catholic school education, even briefly studying for the priesthood before dropping out and getting drafted into the US Army in the spring of 1966. Bad timing.
He travels frequently from his home in San Francisco, CA, USA, to visit his family in Nigeria and West Africa. He writes plays, novels, nonfiction and poetry. He and co-author Yaw Boateng, just published, on Amazon, a piece of investigative journalism: CAPTIVE MARKET: Commercial Kidnapping Stories from Nigeria. He also just published 2 plays on Amazon: BABATUNDE IN HELL, about witchcraft, Ebola and kidnapping in Nigeria, and FAMOUS MICHAEL, about a Vietnam vet medic who can’t forget the war and the woman who can't forget him. Slota's short play, WE ALL WALK IN SHOES TOO SMALL was produced at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. DREAM BIG and FAMOUS MICHAEL were staged by Solano Repertory Company in Northern California. He earned BA’s in Psychology and Theatre Arts and an MA in Creative Writing. He has 3 grown children and is a member of the Playwright’s Center of San Francisco. Look for more plays and a first novel. Also, look for more investigative journalism, with Richard Slota's great writing partner, Yaw Boateng, delving further into Nigeria and Africa. |
